You take good care of your oral hygiene on a daily basis with regular brushing and flossing. But perhaps you aren’t as diligent with going to the dentist twice per year as recommended. It might have been so long since your last appointment, in fact, you might have forgotten about the elements of dental cleanings and exams. |

Let’s take a look at what you can expect when you head to your next appointment with your Denver dentist.

The X-Rays

Most dentists like to take x-rays at least once per year. A full set of digital radiographs will enable your dentist to see what is invisible to the naked eye. X-rays enable your dentist to spot problems while they are still small—and generally treatment is much less invasive at this point as well. It is also usually less expensive!

The Cleaning

The dental hygienist will thoroughly clean your teeth at your routine appointment. Plaque and tartar that you cannot remove with a toothbrush alone will be targeted. Your teeth will also be polished—they might even look brighter and whiter—and then they will also be flossed thoroughly.

If you have any questions about proper home dental care, this is a good time to ask

The Examination

Once your teeth have been thoroughly cleaned, the dentist will take a close look at your mouth as well as the x-rays. Your gums will be checked to ensure there is no sign of gum disease.

If your dentist is recommending any kind treatment, you want to know the “why” behind it, and it’s tough to remember the details after you leave your appointment. It’s a good idea to take notes—or to ask your dentist to email you highlights from your discussion.
